Eke te waka! - Board the canoe!  Experience first-hand sailing on an ocean-going migration canoe built like the ones that brought the first settlers to Aotearoa-New Zealand 800 years ago and learn about navigating across the vastness of the Pacific Ocean before the days of compasses, let alone GPS!

Choose from one of our regular sailings or arrange a custom sail for yourself, family and friends, workplace, conference or incentives programme from our base at the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum next to Princes Wharf, Auckland (click here for map).

Regular Saturday sailings

Take one (or both) of these experiences on the waka from the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum on the inner Waitemata Harbour:

  1. BulletSail 1: “In Kupe’s Wake” - two hours  cultural experience with hands-on sailing

  2. BulletSail 2: “Wayfinding 101” - one hour introduction to traditional navigation

Overnight sails

Each year Te Aurere takes part in the celebrations at Waitangi on February 6th.  This voyage is now the centrepiece of our overnight sail programme.  Further examples will be introduced over the coming months.

Team building

Arawai offers team building experiences for new teams to help develop cohesion and for existing teams to refresh and deepen their collaboration.  Experiences are customised to meet the interests, capacities and intent of each group.

Other attractions

Auckland has a wide range of attractions and activities for your interest and entertainment after sailing on Te Aurere, some of them like the public art around the city are free.  We list some tourism resources for you to find out about more things to do and places to visit in Auckland and elsewhere in Aotearoa-New Zealand.   Cick here for more information.

Sailings resume in November 2013 following the refit after the voyage to Rapanui
