The fourth circumnavigation of Te Ika a Maui (North Island) was undertaken in two stages with the journey broken at Porirua, Wellington. Each stage took about one week. Probably the most “interesting” leg was from Porirua down Cook Strait and then up the Wairarapa Coast to Napier in Hawke Bay. This included 35-45 knot winds, 3-4 metre swells, and a massive wind shift (fortunately just as we cleared the Strait). For the last six hours up to Cape Kidnappers there were five people on the hoe (steering paddle) rather than the usual one! A great sail :-)

A small problem with the computer meant that no plots were made for the final leg from Whangarei to Mangonui
