From time to time Te Aurere makes longer trips around the coast or further afield.  The more recent journeys are shown here.  While the waka has GPS, a laptop and a satellite phone on board to record and  transmit this information, when the waka goes offshore this information is not shared with the navigator on the waka who must determine course and position using traditional wayfinding skills.

NB Waitangi 2011 Sailing Track

The waka came back from Waitangi overnight on 6/7th February but a failure in the transformer on the aged laptop used to process the data from the GPS and then transmit it by satellite phone meant that no track was recorded.  Nothing untoward happend to the waka!
